Lionel Messi and Pedri mark the beginnings of a phenomenal partnership.
Lionel Messi made another world record last night when he scored the last goal of the game. The Argentine’s goal against Real Valladolid was enough to take him to 644 goals which means that he now holds the record for the most number of goals scored for a single club. The record was previously held by the legendary Pele, but records are there to be smashed and that is exactly what the Argentine did.

The record itself is very impressive but what is even equally spectacular is the buildup to it. 18-year-old Pedro González López had a fantastic game all night and gave the most amount of key passes in that game. However, his no-look back pass to Messi which led to the goal was the highlight of the match. A beautiful buildup followed up by a beautiful finish to end Pele’s reign.
The youngster showed his potential with that pass. He had full awareness of the players around him and he had the quickness to act fast and make the quick pass to Messi which allowed him to set the new record. Clement Lenglet commented on the youngster after the match,
"“Pedri doesn’t have the physique of a top-level athlete, so he plays with his head.”Souce Goal"
That may be true but his demeanor never lets him define his game style. In the must-win match against Real Sociedad, Pedri sacrificed his body to make sure that the opponents could not find the equalizer. He has a lot of intelligence but he also has a passion which reminds us of a young Leo Messi.
Of course, putting so much pressure on a young player is not fair and could hamper his organic growth but the world should keep their eyes on this midfielder as he could go on to be a great player. He is already putting in a lot of work and turning a lot of heads but under the guidance and supervision of the best player in the world, there is no saying what heights he could reach.
