Ronald Koeman continues to evolve his Barcelona tactics.

Ronald Koeman has had a tricky start to his reign at Barcelona so far since signing a permanent deal with the club during the summer transfer window of 2020. The Dutchman’s tactics have been so far so good. However, they have not been at the top level since the Blaugrana have already dropped multiple points from losses and draws.

More from Everything Barca

The former Everton manager looks confident with his line-ups and tactics but it seems like due to the lack of players of his choice, it is harder for him to execute his tactics and deliver wins on a regular basis.

The Dutchman started out with a 4-2-3-1 with this Barcelona team keeping two double-pivot midfielders who put in more in their defensive shift than their attacking one’s. Hence that leaves all the creative and playmaking work to Lionel Messi.

This led to a good defensively shaped side but losses to Cadiz, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid came in through this formation. The Blaugranas even made multiple unnecessary draws in games they should have definitely won.

However, the former Southampton coach looks to be diverse with his tactics as he played a 3-4-2-1 in Barcelona’s massive 3-0 win against Valladolid. The Dutchman switched it up to deliver the win against Valladolid in a much more comfortable, free-flowing, attacking manner.

There were more chances created and more attacking flow in the team as Ronald Koeman played Clement Lenglet, Ronald Araujo, and Oscar Mingueza all together. This particular decision relieved Jordi Alba and Sergino Dest off their defensive duties, partially. It gave them all the reason to push forward and help in attacking the opponent with the rest of the forwards.

The Dutchman has not yet been extremely comfortable with the Barcelona side but it looks like with the right players, Koeman can deliver big things at the Nou Camp during his reign.
