Lionel Messi declares “Barcelona is my life”

January is almost upon us and everyone is excited to know what Lionel Messi decides about his future. However, according to his latest interview, fans might have to wait till the end of the season to get any solid answer. Although there is a cloud of ambiguity over his career, one thing that he made clear in the interview was that he loves Barcelona and that even if he leaves, he will be back one day to help the club.

More from Everything Barca

During his latest interview with Spanish media center, La Sexta, the 33-year-old opened up more about his thoughts and emotions when he made the decision of leaving Barcelona in the Summer. It did not go through because of ex-president, Josep Bartomeu, but critics still claimed that the star would leave the club after the end of the season.

While Messi himself is unsure about what to do at the end of the season, he gave every Barcelona fan a very assuring message. He said in the interview,

"“I’m sorry about everything. I always said it. Barcelona is my life. I’ve been here since I was 13 years old, I’ve been living in Barcelona for longer than in Argentina and I learned everything here. The club trained me as a player,”Source Goal"

The player then acknowledged the controversy over the fax that he sent for the transfer request. He said that was one of the lowest points for him in his Barcelona career and the frustration of the previous season was too much. He also however claims that even he is to blame because he made the situation worse and could have handled it better. Now, however, Messi says he is completely focused on the club and is looking forward to winning games even though it has been a tough time for the team.

The Argentine is ready to give it his all for this team which is in transition and struggling. Barcelona is his home after all and he loves the club. He did not like the way Bartomeu backed out of their agreement though and made sure that people knew about that,

"“I felt that it was the moment for change and I wanted to leave and I wanted to do well. The president at that time did not want me to leave and began to filter things to make me look bad and to be the bad guy in the movie and everything that happened, but I am still calm that what I did was what I felt and what I should have done at that time.”Source Goal"

Even though there has been a lot of controversy surrounding Messi and his club, the player is still willing to give his all for the club that he loves. Should he decide to move away next season, the fans should respect his decision and not paint him as the antagonist in the saga.
