The Barcelona midfielder has played very little under Ronald Koeman.

The end of one year and the start of a new ones brings fresh transfer rumors involving Barcelona players. The opening of the winter transfer window opens the door for both arrivals and departures.

More from Everything Barca

Given the financial situation of the club at the moment and the fact that they still don’t have a president, means that for Barca, most of their rumors are likely to be departures.

It’s proving so with Mundo Deportivo reporting that Getafe are said to be interested in signing midfielder Carles Aleña on loan.

Aleña has played a scant 46 minutes in the league. He’s featured more prominently in the Champions League.

He is in a similar situation as teammate Riqui Puig. However, whereas Puig is adamant about not wanting to leave, Aleña would be open to a move away.

One of the reasons as to why is he has already been in the same situation as the one he finds himself in now. He went on loan to Real Betis last season because he wasn’t getting enough minutes at Barcelona. He played well and returned with the aim to play more under Koeman.

Getafe’s own president is the one who admitted that Aleña could be a player they sign come January. With the player’s willingness to accept a move, it is far more likely he leaves than stays.

Koeman has been clear that when it comes to the midfield, he is not going to trust in the young players. His preference is to opt for the more experienced ones regardless of the performance on the pitch.

The situation could be different in six months’ time when the club finally have a new president and potentially a new manager. But for now, Aleña knows he needs to play and knows that it won’t come if he stays at Barcelona.
