The CEO was surprisingly not very open on the situation. He stated multiple things but none of them directed at a permanent move for the Argentine to the city of Manchester Stadium. The Barcelona man was heavily linked to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City ever since he handed in a transfer request in the summer transfer window of 2020.
However, due to many legal complications and obstructions from Barcelona and the La Liga body, Lionel Messi was not allowed to leave as he had one year of contract left with the Blaugrana. Similarly, since his contract is coming to an end in 2021 summer, the Argentine is now officially free to negotiate with other clubs.
As for the Manchester City CEO, Ferran Soriano stated that he is in no place to make any comment about the Argentine and that he is not sure whether the player is going to join him at the City of Manchester Stadium or not. The CEO also stated that Lionel Messi had earned this current situation. He has earned the right to make a move away from Barcelona and to a destination of his choice. The Spaniard stated that Lionel Messi is the greatest footballer of all time and he has the right to move to whichever club he would prefer to in the near future.
Ferran Soriano stated that previously, official contracts and agreements were stopping Messi from making a move away from the club. However, now he is officially free to make a move of his choice. He stated that we will just have to wait for the Argentine to make a decision.
Soriano said that Lionel Messi will make a decision soon, it can be Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Inter Milan or it can be Barcelona itself, the Spaniard stated that we have to wait and as Man City chief there is not much he had to say at that moment.
Will Messi stay or leave Barca in 2021?
