The report goes on to claim Barcelona will not be making any sort of official announcement towards the matter. The player had the option to extend two more years as stated in the contract he signed back in 2018.
His plan has not changed as he remains adamant in his decision to stay. According to Sport, he still believes he can change Ronald Koeman’s mind and get more playing time.
Despite seeing teammate Carles Alena accept a loan deal to Getafe, Puig believes his qualities are best suited at Barca.
With the amount of games on the schedule, sooner or later, Koeman is going to have to rotate some of his players. In doing so, one has to assume he will eventually have to count on Puig.
Their relationship appears to be strained at best with Koeman telling Puig before the start of the season it would be better if he looked for another team as he was not going to play much under him. Things went from bad to worse after he accused Puig of leaking information to the press in order to get them on his side.
With the presidential elections coming up soon, whoever ends up winning will more than likely want to bring in their own manager. Former club legend Xavi Hernandez is the preferred choice and if he indeed does come in, he’ll want to keep Puig as he’s spoken highly of him in the past.
But that is down the line. As for the immediate future, Puig is going to have to do something extraordinary to change Koeman’s mind. Regardless, in Puig’s mind, he sees his future at Barcelona.
