Barcelona starlet shortlisted as UEFA’s 50 for the future.

Recently, a team from UEFA.com was asked to make a list of 50 young players who they thought would get their big breaks in 2021. The team that made the list consists of reporters from UEFA, editors, and other correspondents. The list consisted of one of the brightest young players of Barcelona, Pedri.

More from Everything Barca

The 18-year-old midfielder finally joined the Catalans from UD Las Palmas in June of 2020. Since the arrival of Ronald Koeman, the Spanish midfielder has been used regularly in the first team. Pedri already appeared in 16 La Liga matches and started in 10 of them. He has also provided one assist and scored two goals across all competitions.

He has been a key piece of Barcelona’s midfield this season and he has a lot of passion and tenacity which led many to even compare him with a young Lionel Messi. Pedri has shown his ability to play in big games and perform.

He has great ball holding skills, he’s nimble on the ball but most importantly he sees important passes which opens up defenses. A notable example would be in his match against Real Valladolid, he had the most number of key passes and also gave a brilliant no-look assist to Messi.

The player has great passion and excellent game sense. He knows his surroundings quite well and has the ability to read out the situations to figure out what to do with a calm head. He also showed his commitment in the match against Real Sociedad. In an attempt to win them the game he sacrificed his legs to block a shot on goal. His legs smashed against the goalpost but he won Barcelona the game.

It is no wonder that Pedri has been selected by UEFA’s committee, he has already become one of Koeman’s starters at the age of 18 and could go on to become a legend at the club. The Spanish club could have other players on the list as well as they have talented players such as Riqui Puig and Ansu Fati on their roster but due to falling out with the manager and injury problems, respectively, they were left out of the 50 men shortlist.
