Manchester City are preparing to swoop Lionel Messi.

Lionel Messi is getting closer and closer to an exit from Barcelona as on the arrival of the January transfer window that is currently in motion, the Argentine is free to negotiate with other clubs and parties for a potential future move.

More from Everything Barca

The 33-year-old handed in a transfer request, requesting a move away from the Nou Camp during the summer transfer window of 2020. However, due to multiple legal complications and a court battle threat put on the table by Barcelona and La Liga as an organization, the move did not happen. Currently, the Argentine is free to negotiate and talk to other clubs.

Messi is most likely to move to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City or Mauricio Pochettino‘s PSG. Recently, according to multiple sources, City are reportedly planning a five-year mega-deal for Kevin De Bruyne which will see him at the City of Manchester Stadium for a long time. The Belgian is arguably the best midfielder in Europe and has been in the form of his life over the last few years. The 29-year-old is basically in his peak years.

Reports suggest that De Bruyne was a little unsatisfied by the offer Manchester City have made to him for a new contract. The reports also state that given De Bruyne is one of Europe’s most hot properties currently, the Belgian expected a little more on his contract, in terms of weekly wages. As for the Citizens, they are reportedly trying to land the playmaker from Barca on a free transfer in the summer for which they had to give the midfielder a wage cut, who is currently their highest-earning player. The attacking midfielder earns more than Sergio Aguero, who did earn more than legends like Vincent Kompany, David Silva, Yaya Toure, etc.

However, Guardiola has stated that he is extremely confident about Kevin staying at the club. The reports suggest that both the club and the player are not on bad terms but are not in a hurry either.
