Georginio Wijnaldum set to join Barcelona after rejecting Liverpool renewal
Liverpool midfielder rejects renewal amid Barcelona interest.
When Ronald Koeman took over the role of the head coach of Barcelona, replacing Quique Setien, he requested for two players from his national team. The coach was managing the Netherlands national team at the moment and was thus acquainted with the players he wanted to bring into his new club. These two players were Memphis Depay and Gini Wijnaldum.

The manager ended up with none of them at his club as the financial situation at Barca prevented the deals from happening. However, the good news is both of the players are running out of contracts and will become free agents by the end of the current season. This means that Koeman could end up picking up both of the players for free and save the club a lot of money.
Depay had already shown his wishes to join the Catalans and now it seems that even Wijnaldum will leave his club to join his national teammate. According to Todofichajes, the Liverpool midfielder has declined his latest offer from his current club and will be joining Barca at the end of the season.
The Dutch midfielder was having some problems in coming to an agreement with the Premier League giants about his contract and now it seems like he is no longer interested in extending his stay with the Merseyside club. The 30-year-old wants to be free to join other clubs and face new challenges. Given his age, this could be his last big transfer and thus he wants to make the best of the possible move in July.
