#4 Samuel Umtiti
A player who was impressive for the largest part of the 2018 World Cup-winning squad was Samuel Umtiti. However, he has become another player that Barcelona no longer needs. The 27-year-old centre-back had a brilliant career ahead of him and he was one of the brightest defenders in Europe.
However, after his extended run of injuries, he could no longer find his previous form. After finally returning to the team, it is very clear that he is no longer the player he used to be and although, he is just 27, there are other centre-backs emerging from the youth academy who are just as good as the Frenchman.
For example, in the absence of Gerard Pique and Umtiti, Ronald Araujo and Oscar Mingeuza have stepped up and proven that they can form a solid back-line. They are also very young and could become the future of Barcelona.
Plus add to that Eric Garcia’s arrival from Manchester City and that leaves no room for Umtiti. It will be best for the player and the club to sell the World Cup winner as it can generate some revenue for the Catalans and it will also give the player a fresh beginning in a different environment.
