#2 Philippe Coutinho

Another disaster big-money move was the transfer of Philippe Coutinho. The ex-Liverpool player was brought into the Catalan side for a club-record signing of 160 million euros. Many suggested that the Brazilian was a rushed deal, made in a state of panic after Neymar left for Paris Saint-Germain.

The Spanish giants had a lot of money from that deal and they bought one of the best players from the Premier League, hoping that he would turn out to be the same in La Liga. We all know that this was far from the truth as Coutinho’s time at the club went quite the opposite.

His first season with the club was very underwhelming with the midfielder managing to get only five goals in 34 league appearances and could provide only two assists. He was subsequently sent to Bayern Munich to reduce the burden of his wage fee and also to give him a morale boost.

However, he was not very efficient with the German side either although he did manage to win the UEFA Champions League as well as slip in two goals past his parent team in the 8-2 humiliation, he was largely used as a midfielder that provides depth to an already strong German side.

His current season got off to a rocky start and he is currently injured with no sign of a return. The clear fact is that the club does not require an injury-prone and inconsistent player like him. The emergence of young talents such as Pedri and Riqui Puig further cements the fact that Coutinho is better off somewhere else.

They made a mistake but it is time to swallow their pride and let go of the player. They can still sell him for a decent amount and they should no longer keep him at the club as his sale could potentially allow for more signings.
