The Catalans are set to face Cornella who reached this phase of the competition by knocking out Atletico Madrid.
Manager Ronald Koeman is more than likely going to rotate his side given the club played 120 minutes in both the semifinal and final of the Super Cup. Some players who played in those matches will need to play against Cornella simply because there are no other options.
It will not be an easy match for Barcelona as they will have to play on an artificial pitch. A type of pitch that they are not used to. Having knocked out Atletico Madrid, Cornella doesn’t seem to buckle under the pressure of facing the bigger sides.
Then there’s also the issue of confidence. Barcelona are low on it not just because they lost a final but because they took the lead two times and were unable to hold it with only minutes left in regulation.
In that aspect, whether they might want to admit it or not, it is an important game for Barcelona.
