Victor Font, one of three presidential candidates for Barcelona, has just revealed some shocking news. Eric Garcia, who is dying to return to his hometown, is willing to let go of six month’s salary if it means that he can return to Barcelona this season.

More from Everything Barca

This is great news for the club who will benefit a lot from the transfer as it means more squad depth and they will also be supporting Ronald Koeman, who specifically asked for his transfer.

The 20-year-old defender who is an academy graduate of the famous La Masia, left his roots to find more success under Pep Guardiola. However, he could not break into the team and has now gotten homesick. He longs to come back to Catalunya and Barcelona even tried to bring him back in the summer transfer window.

At that time the English side did not let him go as Pep was sure he could persuade the player to stay however, the player’s mind was set. His contract is running out and instead of losing him for free, Manchester City has decided that they will sell the player to Barca for just 3 million euros which is much less than what they had offered before.

Eric Garcia wants an early Barcelona move.

Font has revealed that the player is committed to Barca and has even agreed to forego his salary for six months, collecting the whole at the end of the season. This would be a great deal for the club who are currently very stressed financially. In a press conference, the presidential candidate said,

"“He [would be] fundamental in the fight for three trophies this season. We know City would accept €3m plus add-ons and we wouldn’t have to pay until next season – that’s a lot less than Barca offered four months ago.”Source Goal"

The interim board cannot make any transfer until all of the presidential candidates give them a green light, and all three of them, Joan Laporta, Toni Freixa and Victor Font have all agreed to let them sign Garcia. Thus the deal can go through even though a president has not been elected.
