Lionel Messi made yet another history in Copa del Rey victory
It is quite a well-known fact by now that Lionel Messi and records go hand in hand. Thus it is not surprising to hear that the Argentine has yet again made history at Barcelona after his appearance in the Copa del Rey match against the second division team, Rayo Vallecano. The Catalans went on to win the match and Lionel Messi set another record in the process.

With his latest appearance in the Copa del Rey, the Barcelona captain now has 76 appearances for the club in the competition. This is the most number of appearances a Barcelona player has made in the Copa del Rey. Lionel Messi has now one more appearance than Spanish legend, Josep Samitier, who had 75 appearances.
The Argentine made the day memorable by scoring the equalizing goal and Frenkie de Jong’s 80th-minute goal sealed the match for the Spanish giants. Messi has already won the title six times and one more would mean that he would be equal with Agustin Gainza, who won the trophy seven times with the Catalans.
Messi has been the most successful player in Barcelona’s history and his legacy has been cemented in the club’s history a long time ago. However, his future is still up for speculation since he has not confirmed his wish to stay or to leave. Messi would certainly want to win a trophy with his boyhood club this season as they went trophyless last season and the Copa del Rey seems the most realistic one which they could win.
