One of the players who had a massive falling out with Frank Lampard at Chelsea was left-back, Marcos Alonso. The Spanish full-back was a regular for the Blues after Antonio Conte brought him in, but he has only played three games in the Premier League this season. This made him a prime target for Barcelona who were looking to bring in a cheap and affordable replacement for Jordi Alba but now it seems like that will not happen.

The 30-year-old Spaniard played his last match under ex-manager, Lampard back in September. In the match against West Brom Albion, the Blues were losing 3-0 at half time. It was a complete shock for the club and a lot of blame could have been put on Alonso who was repeatedly failing to cover his man.
He was brought off after his horrible half and was not even put in the squad for the rest of Lampard’s reign. Barcelona’s technical secretary, Ramon Planes, thought that Alonso would be a fantastic replacement for Alba as both of them have similar attacking game style. Also, Junior Firpo was tried out last season but it was evidently clear that he was not up to the mark as he often let his man go and could not even help out much in the front.
Alonso on the other hand has a lot of top-level experience and he helps out a lot in the forward. He had four goals and three assists last season but his breakout season was definitely in 2017, where he scored eight goals. He has the potential to help out the Barcelona team at least temporarily before they get a younger talent.
However, all the plans to acquire him has been put on halt as Lampard recently got sacked by the London side and replaced by Thomas Tuchel. The German coach might start to give the full-back another chance which will mean that he will no longer need to move away to Barca. However, if Tuchel continues to favor Ben Chilwell over him, he might be open to a move away.
