While youngsters such as Pedri, Ansu Fati, and Ronald Araujo are shining under Ronald Koeman’s new youth-friendly philosophy, not all of the youngsters are having the same time. One of them, Jean-Clair Todibo, is having one of his most horrid seasons on loan away at the Portuguese side, Benfica. However, that could change soon as Barcelona and the French side, OGC Nice are in negotiations about the player.

21-year-old Todibo, joined the Spanish giants in 2019 from the French side, Toulouse. He has only ever played five games for the club and has spent most of his time away on loan. He was on loan to FC Schalke 04 for six months last year but he did not get many chances there either. He was sent to Benfica in October but he is yet to make his first appearance in the league. He has only made two appearances so far in all competitions and is just wasting his time on the bench.
This is very frustrating for the young centre-back as he knows that a halt in his career could be very detrimental to his professional career in the long run. Thus the news that another top tier team wants his services must be music to his ears. The deal is still in its preliminary stage and it has not even been decided whether it will be a loan deal or a permanent one.
Barcelona who are in a huge financial crisis would love to sell the defender as it would raise some funds to pay off their debts. The club has amassed a huge debt of 1.2 Billion euros and if they want to avoid bankruptcy, they must sell off all their unused players such as Todibo. Nice are currently in 12th position and they have been conceding a lot of goals. Thus a young solid center-back like Todibo is desirable and it would benefit both the clubs and the player.
