Sergino Dest was the only transfer that the Catalans could make last transfer window but he also had an offer from Bayern Munich. After their treble-winning season and absolute European domination, any player would be more than happy to join them. However, the American chose to join Barcelona instead and he finally stated why he made his life-changing choice.

More from Everything Barca

Any player in the world would love to play for Barcelona as they are one of the European elites. The club has a lot of history behind it and players have a true passion for the club. In fact, their own motto, Mes Que un club (More than a club), shows us that it is a family and it is a great honor to wear the red and blue shirt. However, in recent years their hold on European football has become weak and they have not been able to win the UEFA Champions League trophy for five seasons now.

Thus when 20-year-old Dest was offered contracts from both Barcelona and Bayern Munich, many thought he would choose the German powerhouse over the Spanish giants. However, it was a much more difficult choice than just going with the team in form. In an interview with the German news outlet, AZ, the right-back finally revealed why he decided to join Barcelona. He said in the interview,

"“FC Barcelona was the club of my dreams. I’ve always wanted to play for Barca at one point or another and then I got the opportunity, Bayern Munich still existed, it wasn’t an easy decision. They are both great teams, but then I listened to my heart and said to myself that Barcelona was the place for me. That’s why I went to Barca,”Source Abend Zeitung"

The player has since then gone on to replace Nelson Semedo as the team’s main right-back, Semedo was sold shortly after the arrival of Dest. He has already made 24 appearances in all competitions and has scored one goal plus provided one assist. He recently claimed that he was a bit low and that his confidence was suffering. Dest is currently out with a muscle injury but he wishes to be back on the pitch with the same type of confidence that he had back in Ajax.
