Barcelona’s financial conditions allowed new manager Ronald Koeman to make only three signings in the summer. While Sergino Dest has cemented himself as a regular for Koeman, the other big-money transfer has failed to make his mark. Francisco Trincao has only made 6 starts so far and is usually used as a tactical sub. However, things might change for the youngster after receiving a much-needed pep talk from the manager.

More from Everything Barca

The 21-year-old winger from Portugal, cost the Catalans 31 million euros and the deal was signed in January 2020, before Koeman was even appointed to the club. The winger was creating a lot of buzz in Portugal and many tipped him to be the next Cristiano Ronaldo. However, he has failed to live up to these expectations by a long shot.

He was given a chance to prove himself in the Copa del Rey match against third-division side Cornella but he was unable to break through their tight-knit defence and was taken off in the 74th minute. After the match was over, the Dutch manager told the struggling youth to be more confident in the final third and make smart decisions instead of hasty ones.

His words seemed to have worked on Francisco Trincao as he was much better in the match against Rayo Vallecano. He had two penalty appeals turned down and also hit a shot on target. Koeman suggested that the player needs a bit of a confidence boost but otherwise he has done well to adapt with the team and that he has a decent relationship with the other players.
