The right-back/midfielder was making his start since November against Atletico Madrid when he suffered an injury to his quadriceps.
Against Granada, Roberto was forced to come off in the 57th minute after appearing to have once again injured his quadriceps. He was replaced by Sergiño Dest who himself was coming back from an injury.
The club did release a statement confirming the injury to the right quadricep and that further tests would determine the extent of the injury as well as recovery time.
He faces the possibility of missing close to a month, meaning he won’t be available for the Catalans’ Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain.
The good news for Ronald Koeman is he did get Dest back who had been starting in place of Roberto. Depth continues to be the issue with Oscar Mingueza being used as the emergency right-back.
The other problem with losing Roberto is the club lose a player who provided cover for nearly every other area on the pitch. He has the ability to play in defense, midfield, or attack. That was one of the reasons why Koeman was anticipating his return.
The injury against Atletico Madrid left him out for a little over two months. This time around, it may only be a month, which, all things considered, is good news for Barcelona.
