According to Sport, his recovery process has hit a major setback and the timetable for his return is now in doubt. Fati was supposed to return to the training pitch by the end of January but that has not happened.
Furthermore, the report claims that Fati had revealed he was still having some pain in his knee. He had upped his workload as he felt his knee was improving but it turned out that wasn’t the case.
According to TV3, Fati has actually operated two weeks ago since the knee was not responding well to treatment. The surgery was kept secret at the behest of the player.
The knee is still not responding well, which opens the possibility that another surgery might be required. If indeed he does need another surgery, that likely dashes any possibility of him coming back this season.
According to ESPN’s Moises Llorens, Fati is not at all happy that someone leaked the information about his injury. Apparently, the leak did not come from someone inside the club rather from someone who wants to be part of it.
Barcelona are likely to be extremely cautious given the severity of the initial injury and the fact that he is still only 18-years-old. He suffered the injury back in November of last year after a 5-2 win against Real Betis.
In any case, what is known is that Fati’s recovery process is no longer going as hoped. The club were hoping to have him back this season but that no longer looks like a realistic possibility.
