Gerard Pique talks Barcelona retirement and Lionel Messi

Barcelona’s veteran defender Gerard Pique recently said in an interview that he would play for no other club than Barcelona. The centre-back claimed that he wanted to end his playing career with the Catalans. He also went on to talk about club legend, Lionel Messi, and send some very assuring messages to the fans.

34 year old, Gerard Pique, is currently the oldest defender at the Camp Nou. Many speculated that he would also be shown the door after the entry of Ronald Koeman but due to the lack of experienced centre-backs in the squad, the Dutch manager decided to keep him. He even signed a new contract extension that keeps him at the club till 2024.

However, things did not go very well for him and the player got injured in November in the match against Atletico Madrid. He is supposed to be back by the end of February but Koeman does not want to rush him into the squad as players like Ronald Araujo and Oscar Mingueza really stepped up in his absence.

In an interview with streamer, Ibai Llanos, the Spanish centre-back opened up about his future at the club. He said,

He went on to talk about the future defender of the club, Ronald Araujo. He said that the Uruguayan is a top-level player and he will continue to play at the top for at least 10 to 15 years.

"“He has everything. He is very young and has a very good head. Also, he is physically strong, fast and powerful, and has good ball control.”"

On the topic of Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique said that there was a lot of controversy in the Summer but everything turned out well as the Argentine stayed on at the end of the day. He said the player is quite happy at the club and can help the club regain their stature.
