Suarez departed from Barcelona after many successful years that made him a legend at the club. The arrival of Ronald Koeman made life extremely hard for the Uruguayan international as he was easily discarded.
The former Everton coach had absolutely no intention of even keeping the Urugyanan in the squad. Koeman had removed a lot of other aging players on his arrival stating that they will not come to use for what he has planned during the time of his stay at the Nou Camp. Luis Suarez was one of those players who was not a part of Ronald Koeman’s plans for the club.
Suarez was paid a heavy amount of wages hence to clear that up, he was sold to Diego Simeone’s Atletico. The former Liverpool man headed to the Wanda Metropolitano on a free transfer. However, the fans were left in shock as Suarez had a year left on his contract. The Blaugrana terminated the Uruguayan’s contract by paying him out of his yearly wages for the upcoming year in order to free up his wages.
Koeman also felt that Suarez’s performances over the last couple of years was not satisfactory enough to keep him as the main center forward of the club. However, the former Ajax man is now the top scorer of La Liga, as he has become a massive part of Atleti’s success this season. Atletico Madrid are currently sit ten points clear at the top of La Liga with one game in hand.
The former Red’s striker felt extremely and heavily disrespected by the way the club treated him during his last days. He felt as if he did not deserve such an exit from a club for which he has done a lot statistically. Suarez is currently in Barcelona’s top 5 goal scorers in history and he reached this particular milestone in such a short time. However, he looks to be doing extremely well in his new club and Barcelona do not look to be on the same level as the Madrid side as of now.
Should Koeman regret his decision of letting Suarez go?
