Marc Overmars tabbed as next Barcelona sporting director
The former Barcelona player has done well as Ajax’s director of football.
Aside from the results on the field, the most talked about thing at Barcelona is the upcoming presidential elections. Originally supposed to have been held in late January, they are now set for March 7th.
All three candidates have in some way or another presented their plan should they win. One important area that two out of the three candidates have yet to decide is who will be their respective sporting director.

According to Mundo Deportivo, former Barcelona player and current Ajax director of football, Marc Overmars, could be the prime candidate for either Joan Laporta or Toni Freixa.
Overmars is set to step down from his role at Ajax come to the end of the season and would be interested in the Barca job should it be offered to him.
Valentijn Driessen, editor-in-chief of the Dutch outlet De Telegraff said that Overmars would not reject the challenge of taking over at the Catalan side.
However, Barça are not alone in their potential interest in the former Dutch international as he is said to also be interested in taking a similar role at another one of his former clubs.
According to The Express, Overmars has also been linked with a return to Arsenal.
What these links have in common is that Overmars is apparently ready for a new challenge at a bigger club. With the sporting director positions open at both of his former clubs, he believes he would be a good fit.
He has had success at Ajax in recruiting players and then selling them off for a sizable fee. Some of the latest examples include Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt, and Donny van de Beek.
His potential arrival at the Nou Camp will depend on if Laporta or Freixa win. Victor Font, the third candidate, has already stated that if he is elected, the role of sporting director will go to Jordi Cruyff.
