Gerard Pique has been out of action ever since Barcelona’s league match against Atletico Madrid back in November of 2020.
He was forced to come off during the second half of that match and tests later showed he suffered a grade II strain to the lateral internal ligament and damage to the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee.
Pique has provided an update on his recovery process as he posted a picture of the club’s training ground on his social media.
It may signify that he could be back sooner rather than later. Suffice to say it would be a huge boost to a Barcelona side that has had its fair share of injuries to its defenders.

It would also be a sigh of relief considering Pique opted for conservative treatment in order to be able to play this season instead of surgery. Samuel Umtiti made the same choice and one could argue, in hindsight, it was a mistake.
Reports indicated that Pique’s recovery process was going well and ahead of schedule. The veteran defender has set the second leg of the Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain as his return date.
At the moment, Barcelona only has three fit defenders following the ankle injury to Ronald Araujo. With no funds available to have brought in a center-back during the winter transfer window, Ronald Koeman has had to resort to calling up players from Barça B or using Frenkie de Jong in defense.
Despite being questioned at times, Pique’s absence has hurt the Catalan side. He’s still the leader of the Barcelona defense and that leadership has been missed.
