It looks like Phillipe Coutinho’s transfer to the Nou Camp was just not meant to be. As of now, it looks like a transfer that would have been fantastic for all parties, if it did not take place. Coutinho has not delivered since his arrival. He’s played well in patches for the Catalans but over-all, for a price of 140 million pounds, the fans and the club deserves world-class results, especially from a player of Coutinho’s caliber.

The player was so unsettled at the Nou Camp, that he was sent to Bayern Munich on a season-long loan. He did end up winning trophies and playing quite decently at the Allianz Arena. The player ended up winning the UEFA Champions League with Hansi Flick, along with the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal. He scored a few goals and provided some assists too. He even ended up getting a brace against his parent club Barcelona in the 8-2 massacre.

As of now, since his return to the Nou Camp, he is yet to flourish and make an impact. However, it looks like he will not even get the opportunity to do so as Barcelona are considering sidelining the player for the current season.

The reason is that Liverpool have a clause in the contract that the Blaugrana will have to pay a certain amount of money to the Reds if the Brazilian plays a certain amount of games this season. In this case, the Catalans will owe a total of 5 million euros to Liverpool if the Brazilian is to play a total number of 7 games for Barcelona this season.

With their current financial, the Blaugrana will have a tough time coughing up this particular amount of 5 million too. Hence, according to multiple sources,  the La Liga giants are considering benching Coutinho for the rest of the season, in order to avoid paying that amount to Liverpool.
