The transfer of the world’s best player would be one of the most sensational moves in footballing history but now new reports suggest that the English giants have no links with the Argentine at the moment although there have been a lot of rumors.
The 33-year-old has been tipped to join another team in a different league after his contract runs out with Barcelona. Messi tried to leave once before in the Summer as well, and Manchester City were the team that everyone had linked him with. It was natural to link him with the light blue club as it would mean a reunion with former manager, Pep Guardiola and they have been one of the best clubs in Europe under his guidance.
Lionel Messi wanted to reunite with the person who got the best out of him at Barcelona and of course, Guardiola also wanted his prodigy back in his team. Apart from this, it was also said that the English giants would offer the legend a contract with their sister club, New York City FC, after his time at Manchester City.
Manchester City are yet to make any contacts with Lionel Messi.
However, now it seems like the Manchester-based club was never actually linked with the player after all. According to Goal, a club spokesperson has clarified all the rumors and reinstated that there have been no talks either in the Summer or the Winter transfer window. This news, although a bit surprising, really shouldn’t be as the player had already stated in December that he would not talk to any clubs until the end of the season as he wants to give his 100% to Barcelona this season.
On the other hand, it could also be a move to keep the player happy. Messi is a very private player and does not like to share his personal details with the media. He certainly did not appreciate the way PSG kept talking about him and even Barcelona said that PSG’s methods were disrespectful to the player. City have kept quiet about their contacts with Messi however, and they understand that the player does not want more media speculation than there already is.
Should Messi choose to stay or leave Barcelona?
