Barcelona are currently going through a financial meltdown and many are still surprised that the club so successful could be so close to bankruptcy. With no president, the club is a ship without a captain. The lack of guidance over the years have ruined the club financially but now is the time for a rebuild.

More from Everything Barca

The new president of the club will be elected on March 7th and he will have a lot of work to do. Sorting out contracts and the upcoming season’s budget will be the most important ones. Here are six contracts that the new president should look into immediately as their negligence could cost the club.

#1  Lionel Messi (Age: 33 | Barcelona contract: Jun 30, 2021)

Perhaps the most difficult task the new president will have to face is the contract renewal of Lionel Messi. The Argentine legend has dedicated his life to the Catalans but his contract is ending in four months and he has shown signs that he wants to move away from the club. For Messi, it is not merely about the money that is being offered but also about the future of the club.

He wants to be on the winning side, a team that will passionately play and tries to win every trophy possible. It will be tough to keep the mercurial superstar, especially with clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City looming about but letting him go for free will be a tremendous loss for the club.
