MLS is slowly growing in popularity among world football fans especially with the introduction of many veteran superstars that often move to the United States as a post-European football career.

Legends like Beckham, Andrea Pirlo, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, David Villa, Kaka, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, Thierry Henry, and many more have moved to the US to promote football while also earning a hefty salary for life after European football.

MLS sides are often known to sign players under the Designated Player Rule or the Beckham rule that allows clubs to sign a maximum of three players outside of the salary cap. Like many teams, Beckham’s MLS side, Inter Miami, have also signed players under this rule, most notably former Juventus striker, Gonzalo Higuain.

Beckham also brought in Blaise Matuidi to boost his side but the two aging stars are not enough for the former English international. David wants to bring in big names to ensure an unbeatable winning project for his club, naming players like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

"“our fans want to see the big stars. We already have players like Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi who add to the glitz and glamour but also in the future we want to have the opportunity to bring some great names in.”“Of course, we always want to bring in great players. Miami is a great pull for anyone and those kinds of players [Lionel Messi and Ronaldo] are the kind we aspire to bring here.”Source Sport"

Local fans in America often criticize this approach as hit hinders the chances of promoting local talent but Beckham addresses this issue when talking to AFP,

"“I have said from day one that our academy system is a massive part of this club and if we can bring players through here that have lived and breathed Inter Miami then that is the goal,”"

It remains to be seen whether Ronaldo will be interested in moving to the US but Lionel Messi has already revealed his dream of joining the MLS and living life in the United States.

Football fans around the world have long dreamt of seeing Messi and Ronaldo play for the same club and Beckham could potentially make it a reality.
