Newly elected Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, had made many promises during his campaign including restoring the Blaugranas to their former glory. Reportedly, Laporta has been scouting a replacement for Ronald Koeman, and RB Leipzig’s manager, Julian Nagelsmann makes the cut.

More from Everything Barca

Notably, Koeman has improved the squad and Barca’s performance quite a bit since he took over. The Catalans were having the worst season and being hit by a pandemic and financial crisis only made matters worse, not to mention an injury crisis. However, the Dutchman took it all in his stride and played several youngsters and promoted them to the first team and had good results to show for it.

Laporta is insistent on keeping Koeman through this season and perhaps scouting the replacement is only a matter of backup in case things go sideways for the former Everton manager.

Koeman should remain with Barcelona for the foreseeable future

The same source also reported the Spanish President’s interest in Ralf Ragnick, who also used to manage RB Leipzig. However, Ragnick is being considered for the post of Sporting Director and not the manager.

Whether or not these appointments happen is a matter of time and circumstance. For now, Koeman has been doing a commendable job with the team despite the unfortunate exit of Barca from the UEFA Champions League. They still have La Liga and Copa del Rey to look forward to and the 53-year-old seems up to the challenge.

Do you think a managerial change is required and would Nagelsmann be a good fit?
