Paris Saint-Germain extremely optimistic about signing Lionel Messi

After failing to perform the remontada against Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona were officially out of the Champions League making it the first time since the 2002/03 season where Lionel Messi does not reach the quarter-final stage of the tournament.

This has sparked many experts to believe that the Argentine maestro will leave his boyhood club to join a more competitive squad as at 33 years of age, Messi does not have many more seasons in the top-level.

Messi’s contract expires in the summer and while Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City remains keen on signing the soon-to-be free-agent, Journalist Marcelo Bechler believes Paris Saint-Germain are very close to signing him.

Marcelo is believed to be close to Messi’s surroundings and has now revealed that the French giants are extremely optimistic about securing the six-time Ballon d’Or winner in the summer. The Parisians have a strong proposal in mind for the legend while also having a star-filled squad along with the presence of Neymar.

Barcelona remains keen on convincing Lionel Messi to extend

Meanwhile, Barcelona are struggling with the massive debt while also having a promising squad that would require some time to compete against the likes of Bayern Munich. While the Argentine has made it clear that he is completely focused on the task at hand with the Catalans now keen on winning both La Liga and Copa del Rey, his future at the Nou Camp remains uncertain.

Newly elected president Joan Laporta did reveal that he has the best chance of convincing Messi to stay; and that the player’s love for the club and a squad filled with youth should be enough to convince him, what Messi desires is a competitive squad to fight for every title possible.
