The Argentine footballer is out of contract with Manchester City this summer, and no renewal talks have been held. At 32 years of age, he would be looking for a new club and Barca certainly fits the bill. Should Barca sign him, here is what he brings to the club:
No transfer fee
With Aguero out of a contract, the Blaugrana could get their hands on the talented striker without paying a huge amount of fee. As it is, since the unceremonious exit of Luis Suarez, the Spanish giants are in need of a proper no.9 and goal scorer.
Lionel Messi could remain at Barcelona
As a fellow Argentine and experienced player, Aguero would certainly bring a lot to the table. While Messi, who has always gotten along well with his compatriot on their Argentine national team, will also get a confidante and friend on the team. Obviously, this doesn’t ensure Leo’s staying but it definitely helps matters.
Experienced striker in La Liga
With 649 games under his belt and 349 goals, he is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with. Before Manchester City, the 32-year-old played for Atletico Madrid, who are currently table toppers in the La Liga. The Spanish league experience of 230 games with 100 goals certainly adds to the plus column.
The drawbacks
On the downside, signing a player of his caliber would require the Catalans to pay a hefty signing bonus and taking on the huge salary that would come with the player. While the player’s performance and statistics certainly justify his pay, at his age even fitness could be a huge problem. His current season has been plagued with injuries and it’s definitely something to consider before signing him on.
