The former president that lead Barca to great success from 2003-2010 faced his first major problem after being re-elected for the role. Laporta needs the Barca board to make 15% of the club’s budget to be sworn in as president. The amount comes down to 125 million euros but Laporta now faces a problem to meet that figure.
Jaume Giro was set to be Barca’s financial vice president under Laporta’s leadership but he has already resigned from the role. It is said that Giro has professional commitments in London but reports state that a dispute between Laporta and Giro in recent days over the selection of personals for the club’s financial positions is said to be the problem.
Sport suggests that Giro was not in agreement with Laporta over the fact that new CEO Ferran Reverter would be the decision-maker while Marca suggests that Giro wanted to be the president of the club’s finances and not a VP.
Both Laporta and Giro decided to part ways after the disagreement with the president-elect now hoping to find a new financial strongman to reach an agreement over the ongoing negotiations with the many banks and investment groups involved.
On top of the financial crisis, Laporta also has to work on signing promising reinforcements to the squad while preparing the departure of many stars in order to afford the many names he has mentioned that he wants to bring to Barca including Erling Haaland.
Will Laporta manage to bring back the glory days at Barca?
