Barring a setback, both players should be available for the upcoming Copa del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao and the Clasico against Real Madrid.
No one is likely happier about the news than manager Ronald Koeman as he’s getting closer to closer to having the majority of the squad at his disposal.
Of the two, the return of Pique is more important considering the recent change in formation. With the 3-5-2/3-4-3, it requires three center-backs. Because of the limited options, Koeman’s had to resort to using Frenkie de Jong at times.
With Pique coming back, as well as Ronald Araujo, it gives him more flexibility and the option to play someone like Oscar Mingueza at right-back.
Pique is coming back from an injury he picked up in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinal against Sevilla.
Sergi Roberto, on the other hand, suffered an injury in Barcelona’s Copa del Rey match against Granada.
Where he fits on the team is a little more complicated.
Sergiño Dest has shown a lot of improvement in recent weeks and he offers more going forward than Roberto. He can also play in midfield but it is already crowded enough.
In any respect, options are a good thing and it looks like Koeman is going to have them. After being short-handed pretty much all season, for Koeman, it will be a good problem to have.
