Barcelona are going through a transitional phase at the moment however, one thing that will always remain a constant for the club is Lionel Messi.

More from Everything Barca

The Captain, Leader, Legend of FC Barcelona has once again proved to the world why he is one of the, if not the greatest football player of all time. Many pundits and critics doubted the Argentine this season due to all the controversies surrounding him and the transfer talks as well. However, Messi has shown that he can put his personal life to the side and focus solely on his professional duties.

Lionel Messi could go on to win his eighth Pichichi trophy.

The 33-year-old was tipped to leave the Catalan side in August but here he is now, fighting for the La Liga as well as absolutely dominating the scoring charts. Messi scored two more fantastic goals against Huesca to take his tally of goals up to 21. The player closest to him is his former teammate, Luis Suarez, with 18 goals and Karim Benzema is in third place with 15.

Should things stay this way, the Barcelona man will pick up his eighth Pichichi trophy at the end of the season for Spain’s top scorer. His first trophy was back 2009-10 when he scored 34 goals and now he is on route to his eight.

Although the player claims that individual awards mean little to him, it will be another trophy added to his massive collection. What would mean something to him would be winning the league trophy this season as it may be his last season with the Blaugrana.

There are rumors linking him to Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain and although president, Joan Laporta, is trying his best to convince the player to stay, at the end of the day, the choice is the player’s to make.
