Barcelona legend Rivaldo thinks that Manchester City legend, Sergio Aguero could be key to a lot of things. The former Blaugrana legend believes that the Argentine can be extremely crucial to make Lionel Messi stay put at the club this summer.
More from Everything Barca
The City legend will be leaving the Sky Blues this summer. Only this week, the club officially announced that the number 10 will not be signing a new deal. This will mean that Aguero will be departing the club after ten legendary years.
Lionel Messi had handed in a transfer request during the summer transfer window of 2020. However, he was not able to leave the club because he had another year left on his contract. That particular contract will be ending this year and there has been no decision as of yet about a renewal. Time is running out for Barcelona.
“Signing Aguero on a free transfer could be a coup for Barcelona, He has a good relationship with Lionel Messi and, with Barca missing Luis Suarez this season, Aguero would probably go straight into the starting 11. His arrival could also [help] new club president Joan Laporta persuade Messi to stay at the club.”
Hence, former superstar Rivaldo thinks that if Sergio Aguero is signed for free, he can be the key to Lionel Messi staying at the club. The two are known to be very good friends and the fact that they go way back during their teenage years in the Argentina national camp. The Manchester City man has been heavily linked to Barcelona ever since the talks about his contract end started earlier this season.
Aguero and Lionel Messi combo could be great for Barcelona
A move for Kun Aguero to Barca would be fantastic in order to make the magician stay. To top it off, their link-up would be deadly as they are known to play extremely well together. This situation can turn out to be extremely positive for the Catalans.
The departure of the premier league legend will surely be disheartening, not just for the City fans but also for the premier league fans. The Argentine forward is heavily respected in England and it will not be surprising if he picks it up again in La Liga, where he does have a good amount of experience.
