Uncertainty surrounding Ousmane Dembele’s Barcelona future
Barcelona president Joan Laporta is a big fan of Ousmane Dembélé and one of the things on his list is to get the player to agree to a contract extension.
Dembélé’s current deal runs out in June 2022 so the club knows they need to extend him this summer or risk losing him on a free in a year’s time.

According to Sport, there is a sense of anxiousness within Barcelona as to whether or not the two sides will be able to come to an agreement. Part of that is because there appears to be no rush at the moment on Dembélé’s camp to renew.
This is the first season since he arrived at Barca where Dembélé has managed to stay healthy and contribute. It’s been his best season with the club and a lot of it has to do with the confidence shown in him by manager Ronald Koeman.
Because he’s finally showing why Blaugranas spent so much to sign him from Borussia Dortmund, he’s drawn the attention of other clubs.
Barcelona want to resolve Dembele’s future as soon as possible.
By all accounts, Dembélé is happy at the Nou Camp. He’s rejected the possibility of leaving whenever his name has been brought up in potential deals. Most recently, he was one of the players PSG wanted in a potential trade for Neymar. But the Frenchman was unwilling to go because he wanted to succeed at Barcelona.
He’s doing so now and has become an integral player in Koeman’s new system. His speed up top is something the Catalans have lacked for a while and he’s become an outlet for Lionel Messi. Especially when the Argentinian drops deep to collect the ball. The threat of Dembélé is now something opponents have to plan for.
The club remain steadfast in their desire for a contract extension. However, they are prepared in case Dembélé decides not to renew and are forced to move on. Given his performance this season, if that does come to pass, there will be no shortage of interest.
Out of all the players rumored for a summer exit, Dembélé, if he decides he’s going to run out his contract, is going to the one Barca can get the most money out of. Yet, it will be a shame as well as he’s only 23 and finally seems to have left his injuries behind him.
