Barcelona recently announced that their attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho has gone under the knives for knee surgery in his home country of Brazil. The player had return to Spain after a treble-winning loan spell over at Bayern Munich last year. Hoping to make a comeback this year at the Nou Camp, after starting the season in a decent manner, the player succumbed to a knee injury yet again.

Coutinho has not had the most successful of spells at Barcelona. The player arrived in the 2017/18 January transfer window with high hopes. The former Liverpool man was signed for around 140 million euros, of which he paid a major amount from his own pocket. It was almost as if the player was desperate for a move to the Nou Camp. It did not work out very well. The original Coutinho that played some of the most beautiful football at Liverpool and Brazil was nowhere to be seen.

Barcelona might consider selling Philippe Coutinho in the summer

Obviously, the player did have a few good games for the Catalans. However, for the price he was signed, he was nowhere near at justifying it. The attacking midfielder was sent to Germany in the 2019/20 season for a season-long loan spell where he won the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League. The Brazilian was also a part of the squad that thrashed Barcelona 8-2 in the UEFA Champions League last season. He even scored a brace in the game.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a move back to a premier league with many clubs. As of now, it does not look like he will be a major part of Ronald Koeman’s plans for the club. There’s no specific time frame in which the player is said to return, as of now. However, it is believed that the midfielder should be fit for the Copa America in the summer if he is to be selected.
