Barcelona star Antoine Griezmann will reportedly be dropped for the upcoming El Clasico clash. This tie is potentially a title-deciding tie as Atletico Madrid struggles to keep the distance to the top as they are only one point ahead of the Catalans. Diego Simeone’s men at one point were 13 points clear of both Real Madrid and Barca but have recently been underperforming to let go of the lead.

More from Everything Barca

While Atletico struggle, Barca have been looking promising with many members of the squad shining through. Ousmane Dembele has been in fine form recently attracting interest from many European giants. Lionel Messi has been at his absolute best since the start of 2021, as he always has been.

While coach Ronald Koeman has a tough job selecting the lineup, the latest reports from Football Espana suggest that Antoine Griezmann will have to be dropped in the upcoming La Liga fixture at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano. The Frenchman has only been able to find the net twice in his last 13 appearances for the Blaugrana.

Real Madrid have had multiple injuries. They have had major players out. However, they have shown a lot of form even with so many setbacks. They recently played Liverpool and beat Jurgen Klopp’s men 3-1 despite having a very unpromising lineup. Liverpool clearly had the better squad on paper but the men in white absolutely controlled the game to secure the win.

Barcelona keen on winning La Liga

In order for Barcelona to win this season’s La Liga and end the season on a positive note, it is very necessary for them to desperately win this fixture. Club president Joan Laporta has stated that he and his team will be traveling to Madrid to win and only win, they will not settle for anything else.

If the Catalans do win the El Clasico this weekend, they will have steered a little clear of Zinedine Zidane’s men and the only obstacle to the league will be Atletico Madrid, given they win. The Catalans also have a game against Simeone’s men before the season ends. This La Liga season has been absolutely nail-biting so far and a clear winner is still not surely visible as of now.

As for Antoine Griezmann, the chances of him starting against Madrid look very slim. However, the Frenchman does have good experience against the men in white from his time at Atletico Madrid. If Ronald Koeman can use the forward on that particular motivation recourse, it can end up benefiting the team immensely.
