Given Barcelona’s financial situation, the club knows it is going to have to be smart on where it allocates its transfer budget.

Which is why it was surprising when the Catalan side were linked to Bayern Munich‘s Jerome Boateng, who has already been told he will not be back with Bayern next season.
Barcelona is not interested in the Bayern Munich center-back.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, The Catalan giants has denied any links with the German international. While they are monitoring the situation of players who are set to become free agents, Boateng is not on that list.
The defense is one area of the pitch where Barca appear to be rather strong despite some of the hiccups this season. The emergence of Ronald Araujo and Oscar Mingueza has provided Ronald Koeman some much-needed depth of an area that was of concern entering the season.
Barcelona does want to strengthen that position given Gerard Pique is getting older and the fact that they are actively looking to move on from Samuel Umtiti. Manchester City‘s Eric Garcia is the player they want to sign and talks between the two sides are advanced.
Because of that, it makes little sense to also sign Boateng. He is going to likely want to be on high wages and it’s not something the club can afford. Looking at it through a sporting sense, he’s also not the same player he used to be and it also doesn’t help that he’s seen as surplus to requirements at Bayern.
Whichever lens one wants to look at this rumor, it simply does not make sense for Barca to want to sign Boateng. As mentioned, they’re close to signing Garcia. Besides, the priority at the moment is to sign a striker, not a centre-back.
