Barcelona legend Lionel Messi failed to have any major impact against Real Madrid on Saturday’s El Clasico tie at Madrid. It was a disappointing performance from the Argentine who is usually known to have some of the most iconic performances in Clasicos. One of the most stand-out statistics was that Messi had more goals in the Clasico history than the current Real Madrid squad combined together. That’s a phenomenal stat and truly shows the significance of the playmaker.

However, it was not the best of performances from the magician at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium. Nothing seemed like going right for Barcelona despite creating multiple chances and dominating possession. The team was 2-0 down in the first half and it would have been 3 if Fede Valverde’s fantastic attempt did not hit the post.

Oscar Mingueza did pull one back and Illaix Moriba hit the post in the very last minute of the game. One could say that the Blaugrana were unlucky but the zeal to compete in a Clasico was not really there from the side.

Barcelona worried about Lionel Messi leaving in the summer

As of now, the club is worried about the Argentine’s future. The people at the club fear that this might have been Messi’s last El Clasico. The 6-time Ballon D’or winner was rumored to leave the club ever since he handed in an official transfer request during the summer transfer window of 2020. However, there has been no talks of a new contract yet. Joan Laporta had promised to keep the magician at the Nou Camp if he was to become president. Now that he is the president, it still does not look like Messi will stay.

"“We hope not; we hope he decides to stay at Barcelona and plays many more Clasicos with Barcelona.” said Barca director Guillermo Amor.Source Goal"

Obviously, the people at the club, the players, and the fans have full hope that the magician will stay eventually. But there is no guarantee. No top-tier sources have provided any sort of rumour or fresh news about Leo staying at the club. If this was Messi’s last El Clasico, it was not exactly the way fans would have hoped to see. However, the footballer does not need to prove anything to anyone at all as he has given it all for the club and we as fans have enjoyed every minute of it.
