The Neymar soap opera has begun. Whether it’s summer 2019, 2020 or 2021, the talk over Neymar’s future and potential return to Barcelona keeps popping up on the news feed of every cule.

We have not even entered the summer transfer window and the Neymar saga is already trending on social media. The Brazilian looked destined to put pen on paper, extending his stay in Paris only to now reportedly put the contract talks on halt.

More from Everything Barca

The former Santos forward still dreams of playing with Lionel Messi again and with the Argentine’s contract at Barcelona expiring at the end of this summer, there was hope that PSG would lure the 33-year-old. There is growing confidence among the Barcelona board members that Messi will stay at the club. This means, a move to PSG would be ruled out and Neymar is now considering a reunification at Barcelona.

Financially, such a deal is going to be an arduous task but with Joan Laporta back as the president, there is a feeling that a deal would be possible. Barcelona’s financial peril will force them to target free agents and show their trust in the youth rather than splashing outrageous amounts of money in the transfer market. Though one big-money signing is not ruled out as Barcelona remain in the hunt to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

Barcelona players are lobbying for the return of Neymar

Neymar had initially agreed to sign an extension but sighting Barcelona’s progress under Ronald Koeman and a real possibility of Messi staying with the Blaugrana, the Brazilian’s dream to return to Catalonia is still on.

In fact, according to Eurosport, Barcelona players are internally lobbying for the return of Neymar. The squad players are unanimous regarding the stance and want to have Neymar back at the club. In fact, as per Mundo Deportivo, the players would prefer the dream return of Neymar over signings of Memphis Depay and Georginio Winaldum.

Neymar’s deal in Paris expires in 2022 which also opens up the door to a possible return for free next season. However, on the part of PSG, if the club fails to renew the Samba magician, this summer will be their last opportunity on cashing in on the 29-year-old and recovering some part of the 222 million euros they paid back in 2017.

Messi and Koeman would be open to have Neymar back at the club but it is still too early to say what will be the outcome as Barcelona have not even contacted PSG or Neymar officially yet. This is football and nothing is set in stone. With the whole summer in front of us, the Neymar transfer saga has just begun.
