Barcelona are still keeping a close watch on RB Leipzig‘s Dani Olmo. The former academy player has been on the club’s wish list for quite some time now.

More from Everything Barca

It started with the previous board under Josep Maria Bartomeu and that interest has remained with the new one under Joan Laporta.

Olmo was linked with a move to Barcelona before he ultimately ended up signing with Leipzig.

Barcelona’s new board remains interested in the Spanish international.

According to Sport, the Catalan side is monitoring his situation and are studying a possible offer once the club resolves some of the issues with the current squad.

Olmo is another example of a player that got away. He was in their academy but chose to leave because he felt his path to the first team was blocked and if he wanted first-team football, then he would need to find it somewhere else.

As opposed to others who have left and joined some of the bigger teams in Europe, Olmo chose to go to Croatia and sign for Dinamo Zagreb.

It was there where his performances caught the attention of Barcelona as well as other teams on the continent. Olmo felt the best move for him at the time was joining Leipzig.

His performances have also earned him a call-up to the Spanish national team under Luis Enrique. He’s quickly become an important player for Spain and scored a late winner against Georgia in World Cup qualifiers.

Laporta believes that he would vastly improve the team but is conscious of their delicate financial situation. One of the objectives of his new board is to try to bring back players who left and have the capability to fit right in immediately.

Things with Olmo right now are on a preliminary basis. Signing him, or any other player, will come only after Barcelona move on from a number of players on the current team.
