Ansu Fati, one of Barcelona’s latest revelations, is set to miss the remainder of the season as the 18-year-old is set to undergo another knee surgery.

According to Mundo Deportivo, both he and the club have decided that going through another surgery is the best option to repair the problems in his left knee.

The recovery process has been frustrating for the young Barcelona star.

Fati got injured in November and had surgery to repair the meniscus in his knee. The plan at that time was he would be back towards the tail end of the season.

However, he simply wasn’t getting better during the recovery process. He could only do light training as anything heavier caused pain in his knee.

He wanted to avoid going back under the knife and so Fati opted for a conservative treatment. At first, it seemed to be going well and he was optimistic that he could avoid another surgery. But the same issue came back when trying to increase the workload.

According to Sport, all parties involved don’t see any other solution than a surgery despite initially wanting to avoid it all costs.

The worrying part this time around is to try and fully fix the problem, it would likely require the removal of the meniscus entirely.

The expected time off is set to be around two months, which means he is going to miss the Euros with Spain but could be back in time do pre-training with Barcelona.

The surgery will take place on Thursday and will be performed by Portugals’ national team doctor Dr. Antonio Maestro and a knee specialist in Dr. Bertrand Sonnerry-Cottett. The latter of which Fati and his family met when they were looking for a second opinion.

The confirmation of another surgery is a huge blow to Fati and Barcelona.

He was having a good start to his sophomore season and it gets derailed. Arguably, the Catalans could have had a better showing in the Champions League with Fati and be in a better position in the league table.

What matters at this point, however, is hoping this latest procedure works and Fati is able to recover without any problems and be ready for the start of next season.
