#2 Georginio Wijnaldum of Liverpool (Age: 30 | Midfield)

Another player whom Koeman tried to bring in the summer transfer window was Georginio Wijnaldum. The 30-year-old midfielder from Liverpool was having some troubles extending his contract with the Merseyside team and rumors were that it was about his wages.

It’s being rumored that the Dutch star believes that he deserved more and that he was being disrespected at Liverpool as he has still not signed a new contract and he will be becoming a free agent at the end of the season. Wijnaldum is a defensive midfielder who usually takes up a more passive role in the midfield however, he is useful in the attack as well. His height allows him to get a lot of headers in.

Ironically, his brace against Barcelona in the infamous semi-final match in the UEFA Champions League helped his team get past the Catalans and now he has a chance to join them in the Summer. Koeman has always liked Wijnaldum’s physical style of play and he has worked with the player before in the Dutch national team as well. While bringing him in does not seem like a bad idea, players like Ilaix Moriba and Riqui Puig, who were coming up, will suffer from the added competition in the midfield area.
