After years of Lyon’s dominance over the UEFA Women’s Champions League, Barcelona Femini was able to dethrone their reign by winning the UWCL yesterday.

More from Everything Barca

History was created last night for the Barcelonistes when Femini thrashed Chelsea Women from the first minute of the Women’s Champions League Finals. Luis Cortes’s side is having one of the best seasons in their history by playing dominating football this season.

In terms of their league, they have an unbelievable record of conceding 5 goals and scoring 128 goals in only 26 games this season. They have a tally of +123 goal difference, there is simply no way to stop Barça Femini.

In terms of silverware, they have become the undisputed champion of the Primera División this season having won 26 out of 26 games. They are due to play their Copa de la Reina semi-finals in 10 days. But last night, the Femini cemented their legacy by winning their first-ever Champions League trophy against Chelsea.

Barcelona Femini’s UWCL Final

Blaugrana was able to wrap up the game before the first half concluded as they had already drilled the ball four times past the Chelsea keeper, Berger. Just 30 seconds into the match, Lieke Martens hit the crossbar that made the ball bounce back with several deflections. It finally rested in the back of the goal line from Melanie Leupolz’s own goal.

Then during the 13th minute, Jenni Hermoso was fouled in the box by Leupolz, who was already having a terrible night for her prior tragedy. Alexia Putellas had no problems putting the Femini up by 2-0. At the 21st minute Martens, Hermoso, and Putellas set up Aitana Bonmatí to drill one past in a typical trademark fashion that Barcelona is so famous for! At the 36th minute, Caroline Graham Hansen tapped in an easy chance that was beautifully presented in a platter by Martens.

Chelsea women looked blue, and there was no instance when Barcelona didn’t look dominant. After the final whistle, Barca created history as they became the first club to win both the men’s and women’s Champions League trophies, a rare feat. Chelsea’s hopes were shattered for doing the double this year in a truly remarkable fashion.
