The elephant in the room after the game was whether or not Messi had played his final home game in a Blaugrana jersey.

His contract is set to expire and there is no word yet on if he will renew or not. He’s said that he is not going to make a decision until the season ended.

There was more optimism that he would continue after the Copa del Rey win against Athletic Bilbao. But doubt has crept back in following the results of the last month.

He knows he only has a few more years left at the top level and he’s been adamant on wanting a good sporting project around him. Barcelona may not be able to deliver on that considering their financial constraints.

The Argentine’s future was one that some of the players had to answer following the Celta Vigo game.

"“We hope that this won’t be Messi’s last match at the Camp Nou,” Jordi Alba said. “But it is a decision he must take.” Source: Marca"

Messi can’t have been happy seeing how his team crumbled late in the season late and, for all intents and purposes, gifted the league to Atletico Madrid.

Laporta and Jorge Messi have had conversations about a renewal. They’ve been preliminary and Messi himself is going to sit down with Laporta and hear out the plans for next season. Only then will his final decision be made.
