The future of Barcelona’s newest wunderkind Ilaix Moriba has been cast in doubt as the club cannot offer the terms his representatives are asking for.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the economic terms presented by his new agency, Rogon, are too high and is not something the club can match at the moment.

Moriba’s contract is set to end in the summer of 2022 and the Catalans considered his extension a top priority.

While the Catalans would still like to come to an agreement, they are unhappy with the way Moriba’s new agency has conducted things and have made it known that given the club’s economic situation, they are not in a position to agree to such terms.

Ilaix Moriba made his debut with Barcelona this season under  Koeman

However, according to Sport, those in the player’s inner circle are surprised to hear about the supposed demands.

They allege that negotiations on a new contract have not yet started and will meet with the Blaugrana in the coming weeks to discuss a contract extension.

Moriba is happy at the club and with Ronald Koeman who gave him his senior team debut. He played 18 times for the Catalans this season and became the Dutchman’s preferred choice over Riqui Puig and Miralem Pjanic.

With Koeman set to continue as manager, it is more than likely that Moriba’s importance within the first team will only get bigger. The 18-year-old has had a bit of a meteoric rise and is someone Barcelona will try to build around.

He and his family are both happy with the way his career is progressing and believe Barcelona is the best club for him to reach his full potential. But his contract is expiring soon and they are not going to want to let him leave on a free. If they want to reach an agreement on a new deal, both sides are going to have to make compromises.
