Sergio Busquets talks Lionel Messi’s renewal amid his own uncertain future

Lionel Messi’s contract has apparently been finalized but it still has not been signed by the Argentine and it is making everyone involved with the club feel very uneasy. The Argentine must sign the new contract by 30th June, as after that he will become a free agent. Club legend, Sergio Busquets has recently stated that he would love to continue playing with Messi however, he also believes that it is about time he ends all speculations and decides on his future.

Sergio Busquets talks about Lionel Messi and his own future.

In an interview with Cadena Ser, the 32-year-old holding midfielder made it clear that he wanted to see Messi continue at the club. The two have been playing together for a long time and Busquets is the only other player from the sextuple winning squad of 2009-10, who is still playing for the club. He said in the interview,

"“Hopefully we will continue to play together next year. Let’s see if he renews.”Source Goal"

The Spanish international and former World Cup winner is currently captaining his team in Euros 2021 and he has managed to take his team into the round of 16 of the said tournament. This is a big achievement for Busquets who acknowledges the fact that this might be his last international tournament, thus a big result would be a dream come true for the Barca legend.

On his career for Barcelona, the midfielder said that he wishes to continue playing for the club for the foreseeable future however, he did mention that he wants to get into coaching. A coaching career may be next for this generational midfielder as he said in the same interview,

"“Yes, I think I’m going to try. It’s not easy, you have to be worth it, you have to know how to reach the players, but I’d like to try.”"
