Barcelona along with top teams such as AC Milan, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur are all going after Sampdoria’s wonderkind, Mikkel Damsgaard. The Danish left-winger is a versatile player who can play all over the midfield and he has been doing that for Claudio Ranieri over the last season. However, his claim to fame was not from his club matches but rather from Denmark’s match against Russia in the Euro 2021. Now he is being surrounded by big teams and he might need to make a crucial decision soon about his future.

More from Everything Barca

The 20-year-old had a pretty average season with Sampdoria last season. He played 35 games in Serie A and could only manage two goals and four assists. He played all over the field, as a left-winger, a central midfielder as well as a secondary striker. His goal against Russia brought in the attention of the big teams and he managed to keep the good run going by providing an assist against Wales in the round of 16.

He is on a fantastic run with his country, who find themselves in the quarter-finals of the Euros, a statement which most would not have believed at the beginning of the tournament. His stunning goal against Russia has already boosted his value, and Sampdoria’s president believes that Damsgaard is easily worth almost 50 million euros. He said in an interview with Il Secolo XIX,

"“Did you see that Damsgaard goal? I will tell you its fair price, today at least 30 million. But if he dials again he will reach 40”Source Sport"

Barcelona eye Mikkel Damsgaard’s signing

It is understood that the Italian midtable side will be looking forward to selling the youngster as it could potentially bring in a big amount. With top clubs from Serie A, La Liga, and Premier League, all eyeing up the player, a bidding war could ensure a high price for the player. Barcelona cannot really afford the player if the president sticks to the high price tag, however, Joan Laporta has a lot of good connections and could make the deal go through if he really wants to.
