Despite their financial issues, Barcelona keeps its momentum high as they try to make impactful reinforcements for the start of a new era at Camp Nou.

More from Everything Barca

At the start of Joan Laporta‘s presidentship, the financial records of the club were in arrears. The club was reported to be in a massive debt of €1 billion. The management had then deliberately secured a €500 million additional credit line with an American investment bank. Out of which they had planned to use €100 million to pay off the wages of the first-team squad.

The COVID-19 crisis had further added to their woes as Barcelona’s financial problems didn’t heal. Their total debt jumped nearly around €1.2 billion. The Barcelonistes have been transparent of their turmoils and made no secret of this. However, taking every fragility into account, they have been unfazed by their worries and had come around swinging for the fences in the transfer market.

Barcelona remains active in the market

Blaugrana has still signed most players in the summer transfer window in Spain. The possible addition of new faces had been possible courtesy of free agency, from where the club made numerous signings. Already players like Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia came in on free transfers. Emerson Royal was the only one to join the Culers for €9 million.

A few more additional transfers could be possible as the club looks to offload redundancy in their squad to capitalize during the shuffling season. The gathering of funds will aid the club massively as in this dire situation, every drop counts. Players like Philippe Coutinho, Miralem Pjanić, and Samuel Umtiti are some big selling prospects for Barça.

No messing about with Messi

Barcelona is synonymous with their living legend Lionel Messi. Speculations of him leaving unnerved the club for a whole calendar year. The club’s main priority is to convince Messi to stay and commit to the club by putting his signature on a new contract as his old one would expire in three days. The process is taking a bit longer than expected as the Argentine is on national duty for Copa America.
